A roguelite deck builder with a grimy sci-fi setting.
ROGUELIKE CARD GAME DECK BUILDER
(This game is still in development, but is already playable.)

These are dire times for the galaxy. A mysterious force radiating from the tundraplanet Thrun-Thraal holds everything and everyone in its grasp. Its unknown sitter is regarded the usurper of the three galactic federations, and the catalyst that brought the Zarplooians to their knees.

You find yourself at The Beginning. You have no idea how you got here, but the only thing you have on you is 3 crystals and a few puny cards.

This is your chance.

HOW TO PLAY
Drag cards onto the enemy you want to use them on.

ABOUT THE DARK THRONE
-This game is developed as a mobile game. It does work on desktop, but the dragging might be a bit more tedious.
-The Dark Throne is in active development. More enemies, artefacts, backgrounds, events and cards will be added later, and some gameplay may change over time.

hey great game,  there is one bug (at least I think it's a bug) where having the lighter fluid card in your hand causes it to activate whenever fire is applied to an enemy.

Thanks! I'll look into it!

This game is great! But sad to see it hasn't had much update in the past year or so. Is it still under development?  Is there someplace where we could get the full version?

Hi discourageo! Yeah, I’m working on the game next to my day job, so it takes a lot of time. However, the Dark Throne is still in development. No promises about release, but expect more enemies, actual metaprogression (unlocking of cards, so nothing game breaking) and more artefacts and powers. I’m also working on a lot more ?-events to get a bit more of an RPG feel.

It was hard for me to decide if the game differs enough from Slay the Spire to not feel derivative. I hope the whole events thing and new powers will help.

Good to hear you’re enjoying the game, more to come, not sure when! 😅

Thanks for the quick reply! Yes I think adding more "things" to do between loops would be fun. Since the game is still under development, I'll share a few bugs I encountered: When all artifacts have been acquired, getting a new one causes the game to freeze. Similarly, as other commenters pointed out, you can softlock by moving sideways into a corner.

Ran into another movement issue: after defeating a boss, I can’t seem to move to the next area. (The next area was the Dark Throne.)

EDIT: Same thing again, got to the end but can’t go on to the Dark Throne. Also found a fun stunt: if you’re using Cuda, the fast ship, you can jump from one boss to the other, fight both, and get both rewards (energy or card draw):

This issue aside, I’m really enjoying Dark Throne as a deckbuilder! I’m looking forward to trying the final area.

Hi Josh!

Yeah, those are pretty much the ends of the demo. I will absolutely fix that, maybe for the time being put a message up saying you exhausted all of the "demo"-content.

Glad you like The Dark Throne, I'll keep y'all posted!

Ah, that makes sense! It’s quite fun, thank you for making it!

Seems to be possible to cut off access to the final tile, if you step sideways to reach something else in the corner (like a shop). You can’t step back along your path to reach the exit, so the game seems softlocked.

Thank you! I will have a look at that one.

Thanks!

One more interesting softlock: I ran into a after defeating a strong encounter (the tadpole), I used a combination of the Ruby Goggles, lots of card draw and energy, and Skill Shot with a deck full of shields, to get an “overkill” on it. After defeating the tadpole, the encounter didn’t end. The reward screen didn’t pop up, and I had an “End Turn” option; hitting that did nothing, and just hung. I tried exiting and restoring the game, which brought me to the map prior to having had the encounter, and tried the encounter again (this time aiming for a little less overkill), with the same outcome again.

I ended up restoring and stepping in another direction, to a non-challenge encounter tile, which had the same tadpole, but the encounter finished properly when it was defeated.

EDIT: had the same problem again with another challenge tile. I realized: I think I might have all of the artifacts (assuming there are 10). I’m wondering if the game is hanging when it tries to generate a random artifact that I don’t already have, and can’t because I have them all.

EDIT: Looks like that might be it, because entering the treasure (diamond) tile also hung.

what is this?

i once got about 300 armor and 50-60 spikes(that was non attack build and bosses were killing themselves) so that's okay

Yeah, I'm still balancing it, but this seems like a feature to me. I mean, I've accounted for lots of ways for y'all to play around with and abuse the systems in the game. And once you do, good for you!
I haven't implemented any good bosses yet, they are currently randomly picked from the pool of enemies. Expect more of a challenge later. hehe
